Thursday, May 16 at 7pm – MacEwan University (109 St and 104 Ave)
UCC Edmonton, UCC Alberta, and the Ukrainian Canadian Benevolent Society of Edmonton are organizing a traditional annual march in Ukrainian embroidered shirts to celebrate together Ukrainian Embroidery Day by walking through the city. Everyone is invited! We’re joining, are you?
Every year on the third Thursday of May, Ukrainians worldwide come together to celebrate World Vyshyvanky Day by proudly wearing their best embroidered shirts, or vyshyvanky.
In Edmonton, this beautiful tradition will continue with a parade through the city center, showcasing our vibrant culture and heritage. We will gather at 7:00 p.m. at the designated location (at the corner of 109th Street and 104th Avenue near MacEwan University), and at 7:15 p.m., we’ll start our procession to the Legislature. There, we’ll unite as a community to unfurl a massive Ukrainian flag while singing the National Anthem of Ukraine. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our shared identity, support one another, and honour the traditions passed down through generations.
Bring along your relatives and friends to join the procession and be part of this meaningful celebration. Let’s show the world the strength and beauty of Ukrainian culture!
Remember: Vyshyvanka is the spiritual armour of Ukrainians, and Ukraine is the Armour of the World!
